Welcome to the Equalities Mediation Service
We provide an independent and impartial service to…
…anyone who feels they have been treated unfairly because of the following “protected characteristics” as defined by the Equality Act:
- age
- disability
- gender
- gender reassignment
- marital or civil partnership status
- pregnancy or maternity
- race
- religion or belief
- sexual orientation
… any organisation, company or individual who has received a complaint about discrimination on these grounds.
We help both sides in a dispute reach an agreed solution without the expense, time and stress of court or tribunal action. Since January 2007 we have dealt with hundreds of cases, 80% of which have reached full agreement.
We are part of Mediation Works, which has many years’ experience in equalities mediation. We were the sole provider of the service on referral from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). Despite the changes to the EHRC, which no longer has the power to support the service directly, our team has unique experience in this field and we continue to offer equalities mediation in cases where an individual feels they have been discriminated against.
Lorna Valcin is Head of Employment and Immigration at national law firm Colemans-ctts LLP.
